Vitamin D + Inflammation
Why should I take this Test?
Vitamin D deficiency has become one of our most common and ‘under-diagnosed’ medical conditions that can contribute to almost every chronic illness we see today. Wow, what happened!! Well, we protect ourselves with ‘sunblock’ more than we use to, we don’t go out ‘in the sun’ as much as we use to, and then there’s today’s environmental factors of how much Vitamin D can still actually be absorbed from our sun?? Knowing your Vitamin D and inflammation levels are one of today’s most important and highly recognized answers to supporting a strong immune system. Vitamin D deficiency has been implicated in various inflammatory diseases including Arthritis, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease as well as other conditions associated with Diabetes, Cancers, Multiple Sclerosis, Heart and Cardiovascular Health and Alzheimer’s. Studies show that increasing Vitamin D levels can help reduce inflammation and improve our immune system, and that people with higher levels of Vitamin D have a lower risk of disease and illness.
Why should Children and Teens take this Test?
Children: Sub-optimal Vitamin D levels can be common among otherwise healthy young children and toddlers. Many factors may lead to a deficiency of Vitamin D and inflammation and early screening may be helpful. It has been suggested that Vitamin D treatment may help in treating or preventing soft bones in children (rickets), delayed motor development, muscle weakness, aches and pains and bone fractures. Teens: Vitamin D has been called the new “wonder vitamin”. Doctors are learning more about its role with inflammation and teens and the prevention of many illness’s including Autoimmune Disease, Allergies, Asthma and Eczema as well as other concerns for all ages including Depression and Obesity. Unfortunately, most teens don’t get enough.
What will my Test Report give me?
Vitamin D has been widely known for playing a role in the bone-building process by helping the body to absorb calcium. If you don’t get enough from the sun and the food you eat, it could affect the body’s ability to build and maintain strong bones and teeth. But it’s not just about your bones, Vitamin D is needed for a healthy immune system and reducing inflammation — helping the body to fight off infections and prevent disease. Your Test Report will measure your levels of Vitamin D and Inflammation, hsCRP (high sensitivity C-reactive protein). You and your Health Care Provider will have the most current information to discuss and help improve your current and future health and wellness. You get ease and convenience of home-based sample collection and highest accuracy standards of laboratory testing.
